Though we are not an official non-for-profit organization (yet), I do hope we will be in the future.
About Amanda:
From the time I could sit up and watch TV my favorite channels were anything to do with animals, animal research, pets
and issue concerning animals. National Geographic is on 24/7 in my bedroom and the other favorites just pop up whenever
I get the chance to watch them. I have spent all my life studying animals of various species and have found that although
I love all animals, from dogs and cats, to birds and livestock, my passion is exotics. Of course, that term right there
covers a lot of ground.
Over the years I have brought home and found many animals that were sick, injured, dying or just abandoned or neglected.
I wanted so much to nurse them back to health, so I learned all I could about each animal I took in and cared for it the best
I could.
Today, I still do this. I spend all the spare time I have devoted to research, updating files and loading my house
down with magazine articles, books and overloading my computer with a plethora of websites, groups, forums and pages all centered
around animals.
I do what I can, when I can for the animals, and even then, I will push to do even more if I can manage it.
Other than that, I'm your typical girl (yeah right) with a ton of hobbies (where DO I find the time?), lots of TLC to
share with the animals, a loving boyfriend and family and many friends to make out there. :)
Now, let's go find out more about the Menagerie shall we?
Future plans:
Well this is one of those questions that leads to a long but very meaningful answer. :D
Our future plans involve obtaining the funds and permits to build our own educational sanctuary. What does that
mean exactly? Very simply put, it means we will have a facility where people will be invited to come on guided tours
(by myself and whatever staff we bring on by that time) where you'll meet and learn about the animals under our care.
You'll hear their individual stories of how they came to be sanctuary animals and also have the opportunity to adopt any animals
at our adoption facility (which will be on the same grounds) for those animals that CAN be noted as adoptable. Some
animals however, either due to attitude from their past experiences or just due to the fact they are not the best suited for
a home life will stay at our sanctuary to live out their lives peacefully.
This of course will be something that will take us awhile to obtain. It will require funding, loads of paperwork
(ie building permits, wildlife permits, etc) and lots of time. :) I'm so excited about it and figure I'll get there
someday, even if it does take a decade to come to life. :D I am also hopeful that by the end of 2006, I will be going
back to college to work towards my veterinary degree. So not only will our animals have the best loving care of myself
and anyone that works with us, but I'll also be in charge of keeping everyone healthy on a medical level (which will help
being the on call vet as well as owner and operator). ;)
So now we have permits, funding AND quite a few years in vet school to tack onto that list. LOL! But, it can and
will happen!
